Master Gardener Woody Plant ID: Flowering Trees Advanced Certification is a six-hour course designed to teach the identification and usage of twenty-seven flowering trees that are hardy in Erie, Pennsylvania.

To Be Covered

Flowering trees provide multiple seasons of interest to the landscape with flowers, fruits, foliage color, form and bark. Available selections in a range of sizes make these trees suitable for large rural landscapes as well as small urban spaces. For each plant we will discuss physical morphology, site requirements, landscape value as well as any common insect pests and diseases.

Flowering Tree Manual

The class includes a full-color identification manual on flowering trees.


The class will be held outdoors, participants are asked to dress for the weather, including footwear that will keep feet dry and comfortable.

What to Bring

Bring a pencil or pen. Participants may also wish to bring a camera.

Credit Information

This course qualifies for ISA and PCH credits.

The Master Gardener Advanced Certificate Program provides in-depth training in specialized areas of horticulture. This training prepares Master Gardeners to become more proficient in answering gardening questions.
