Late winter is the perfect time to prune trees, but what is the correct way to ensure continued plant growth and vigor? Join the Penn State Master Gardeners of Lycoming County and learn the how and why of proper pruning. Learn why topping is not an acceptable technique and discover recommended alternatives.

Pruning is the most common tree maintenance procedure. Although forest trees grow quite well with nature's pruning, landscape trees require a higher level of care to maintain their structural integrity and aesthetics. Individuals will learn that pruning must be done with an understanding of tree biology and that improper pruning can create lasting damage or even shorten the tree's life. When you are ready to make that first cut this spring, you will be able to cut with confidence!
