Torey Fischer is a poultry extension educator based in Mifflin County and covering central Pennsylvania. She holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Michigan State University and a master’s in poultry science and extension from Purdue University. She worked with extension in several different capacities at those universities. Her research during those degrees focused on the welfare and behavior of laying hens in cage-free housing systems, egg quality and food safety, and extension programming for smaller-scale and backyard poultry operations. More recently, she has become a USDA-certified Composting Subject Matter Expert. She hopes to expand programming in these areas and reach more poultry operations of all sizes in Mifflin, Juniata, Snyder, and Union Counties, as well as in surrounding areas.
