Mattie Horchler
Mattie works as a livestock educator for Northwest PA, stationed in Mercer County. Mattie grew up in Lawrence County, just outside of New Wilmington. Her family farm focuses on sheep, but they also fed out and showed beef cattle, goats, and hogs. She graduated from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in animal science and an associate degree in ag business. After graduation, she worked for Dr. Rachell Weiss at Applied Reproductive Concepts. While there, Mattie learned about emerging technologies for embryo transfer and artificial insemination in small ruminants. Mattie loves working for Penn State extension as she is able to pursue her passion for animal management, all while helping the community she grew up in.
