Learn the basics of sheep and goat production in this overview meeting. Topics will cover basic production practices, reproduction, feeding and nutrition, health care, marketing tips and financial aspects. The meeting will also offer information on grant funding that is available to help get your enterprise started.
This workshop provides an overview of sheep and goat production principles. Speakers will discuss the basics of what you need to get started, where to find and how to select animals for your operation, handling and equipment needs, reproduction basics from breeding through lambing or kidding, feeding and nutrition, health issues, plus marketing and finances. This is a great opportunity for future producers to gain insight into sheep and goat production. New producers can also learn other aspects of sheep and goat production and ask questions of livestock educators. Workshops are sponsored by Penn State Extension, PA Department of Agriculture, Republic Food Enterprise and Fayette County Community Action Agency.
