Learn the basics of raising hogs for meat production in this overview meeting. Topics will cover basic production practices oriented towards your goal for raising hogs for meat, including deciding your goals, sourcing pigs, selection principles, nutrition and feeding, daily pig care, housing, health concerns and financial tips you need to know to get your hog enterprise started.
This workshop provides an overview of hog production principles. Speakers will discuss the basics of what you need to get started, where to find and how to select animals for your operation, handling and equipment needs, feeding and nutrition, health issues, plus marketing and finances. This is a great opportunity for future producers to gain insight into hog production. Existing producers can also learn other aspects of hog production and ask questions of livestock educators. Workshops are sponsored by Penn State Extension.
