Silent Auction

A silent auction will be held as an important fundraiser for the Master Gardener program.

Saturday, March 9, 2019

08:30 am Registration / Continental Breakfast (included)

09:15 am Iris: Color for All Seasons This presentation will show gardeners that the Iris family has a broader scope of flowers to enjoy than the standard and well know German Bearded Iris. The talk will involve showing how irises can be useful for many purposes, in many garden situations, in many colors at many times of year. Some iris background as well as problems will be covered in the talk.

10:30 am Herbs Herbs are very useful but often underutilized plants. Whether used in the flower garden, vegetable garden, or as a landscape enhancement, these multifunctional plants successfully enhance the appearance and richness of the garden environment by attracting beneficial insects and pollinators. Annette will discuss planting, growing, harvesting, and preserving herbs. Importantly, she will also discuss how gardeners can use herbs in enhancing the bio-culture of their gardens.

11:30 am Lunch (provided)

12:30 pm Invasive Pests As emerald ash borer continues to spread across North America, a new pest looms on the horizon: spotted lanternfly. But what's being done to combat these forest invaders? We discuss recent control efforts for emerald ash borer and other established pests, as well as overview spotted lanternfly and other pests on the horizon.

01:45 pm Maximizing Your Soil Potential Your plants grow better when the soil is at its best! Learn how to identify the types of soil, the physical properties of soil, the importance of water and air space, soil nutrient content, pH adjustments, fertilization, proper drainage, and helpful tips on composting as a valuable soil amendment. When you know what to do, improving your garden soil provides excellent rewards.
