Rumen cannula available for purchase includes the cannula and stopper (shown at left). The addition of rubber and plastic washers is shown in the photo on the right.

The calf rumen cannula has an internal diameter of 1 1/8 inches (2.8 cm), and is 2 3/4 inches (7.5 cm) in length with a 2 3/4-inch flange (7.5 cm). A stopper is included.

In our experience, adding washers to the cannula creates a better fit. We custom cut two washers for each cannula, one from rubber and one from thin plastic (such as sheets used to cover rain gutters). The rubber one is slightly larger in diameter and is fitted against the calf's body wall. The plastic washer is placed on top of the rubber washer. A drill with a 1 1/2-inch hole saw bit was used to create the center holes of the washers.

The rumen cannula for dairy calves is available for purchase from Penn State for $80 per cannula.

Shipping to U.S. addresses is included in this price; an additional $25 charge applies for international shipping.

Please include a check or money order, in U.S. currency, drawn on a U.S. bank, made payable to The Pennsylvania State University for the total amount of your order with your request.
