At the September 13th quarterly business meeting, the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) voted to revise the draft regulations pertaining to natural gas development in the Delaware River Basin. The regulations will be published by November 30th and be open for public comment.
Comments will be sought related to barring natural gas production using the horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing technology. Comments regarding disposal or discharge of wastewaters associated with these technologies in the Basin and to regulations of inter-basin water transfers related to natural gas development where permitted are also requested.
The DRBC is run by Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York governors and the commander of the US Army Corps of Engineers for the North Atlantic division which represents the federal government. The resolution was voted on 3 to 1, with one abstention.
Once the raft rule is made public, comments may be submitted and will be made part of the record. More information about the Resolution, draft rules, and submitting comments may be found on the Basin’s website at www.drbc.net
