When scrabbling for a supply list for a word sandwich to wrap up a leadership Study Institute, it was a stunning task as these expressions seemed to flow together as a poem. This was a one-word summary from RULE XX, members of the Leadership Team and Staff. We had just completed the last day, which included "Attitude of Gratitude" by RULE Staff Tara Homan and JD Dunbar, followed by a command performance of Lara Fowler, Penn State's Chief Sustainability Officer. When all were quite spent by three days of challenges, including all of the Scholars, "Who Am I and Why Am I In RULE?" speeches, Lara provided a provocative wrap/rap session on "Belonging," which stimulated a robust discussion on volunteerism. To summarize the Study Institute, this dare was the worm on the hook. "Please share a word or a phrase that captures how you feel after this Study Institute."
We all kept to one word.
