Kenny Bounds

Board Vice President, Mid Atlantic Farm Credit

Kenny is a 1977 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Agronomy-Soils. He has worked in the Farm Credit System for over 33 years and is currently Vice President/Government Affairs Officer for MidAtlantic Farm Credit, ACA.

The Farm Credit System recognized Kenny by awarding him the nationwide Farm Credit System Phelps-Martin Award for Community Service in 2006. Kenny was earlier awarded MidAtlantic Farm Credit’s 2002 President’s Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the Farm Credit Bank of Baltimore.

Kenny is President of LEAD Maryland Foundation, Inc. LEAD is a nonprofit organization dedicated to identifying and developing future leaders for Maryland’s agricultural and rural communities. Kenny also worked closely with past Delaware Secretary of Agriculture Michael Scuse, current Secretary Ed Kee and Dean Robin Morgan of the University of Delaware to create a LEAD program in Delaware in 2007. Recently, Kenny was honored to be asked to serve as 1st Vice President for Pennsylvania RULE; Pennsylvania’s agriculture and rural leadership program and one of the oldest and most respected in the country.

Kenny is Past President and current member of the Board of Directors of Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. (DPI). This trade group represents 4,000 members with an interest in the poultry industry. During Kenny’s tenure as DPI President, Mike Wallace interviewed him on 60 Minutes in a story entitled “Big Chicken.” In 2004, DPI awarded Kenny the J. Frank Gordy, Sr. Delmarva Distinguished Citizen Award for being a “forceful voice for Delmarva agriculture and an omnipresent agricultural ambassador.” Kenny remains engaged in animal agriculture issues and is committed to finding ways for agriculture to remain viable yet set high standards for environmental stewardship.

Kenny serves on the Maryland Governor’s Intergovernmental Commission for Agriculture and in November 2008 was asked to chair Delaware Governor Jack Markell’s Transition Team - Agriculture Sub-committee. Kenny serves on the program and loan committees of the Maryland Agriculture and Resource Based Industries Development Corporation (MARBIDCO), Pennsylvania Farm Link board of directors and the Keystone Development Center board. The Maryland Association of County Agricultural Agents chose Kenny to receive their 2007 “Service to Agriculture” award. In December 2008, the National Young Farmers Education Association recognized Kenny for “Outstanding Achievement and Excellence in Civic and Community Leadership.”

Kenny spends his free time hiking, fishing, and traveling with his wife Karen, two sons Chris and Josh, daughter-in-law Rachel and grandson Nicholas. Kenny and Karen have also learned agriculture first hand as they operate a corn and soybean farm in conjunction with other family members on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
