New Standard Animal Weights Approved

On May 9, 2017, the State Conservation Commission (SCC) approved new standard animal groups and animal weights that will be used by the Act 38 Nutrient Management Program to determine whether a Pennsylvania livestock or poultry operation is affected by Act 38 and required to develop and implement an Act 38 nutrient management plan.

The new Standard WEIGHTS will become effective on October 1, 2019 for the start of Crop Year 2020.  This process is outlined in the SCC policy document “Standard Animal Weights Update Roll Out 2017-06”.

The factsheet, Pennsylvania’s Nutrient Management Act (Act 38): Who Is Affected? (Agronomy Fact Sheet 54), has been updated with the revised animal groups and weights.

The new animal groups and weights will be included in Version 6.0 of the Nutrient Management Plan Spreadsheet, expected to be released in October 2017.

Likewise, Supplement 5 of the Nutrient Management Technical Manual Version 10, also to be released in October 2017, has been updated with the new animal groups and weights.
