Penn State Extension in Wayne County is now accepting applications for the 2018 Master Gardener Basic Training program. This volunteer training course is designed to provide experienced home gardeners with information and skills to serve as volunteer educators. Master Gardeners use research-based information to teach information on best practices in consumer horticulture and environmental stewardship.

The training course is designed to provide home gardeners with information and skills necessary to share their experience and knowledge with others through this education-oriented volunteer organization. Bi-Weekly classes will be held starting January 13, 2018.

In exchange for 40 hours of instruction, candidates must agree to volunteer 50 hours to Penn State Master Gardeners the first year and 20 hours each year thereafter to maintain certification. Volunteer activities currently carried out by Master Gardeners in Wayne include Lakeside School Garden Program, MG Booth at the Wayne County Fair, MG table at the Hawley Farm Market, Dairy Ag Day and helping present and run many Master Gardener Workshops which are open to the public.

There is a $130 program fee to cover the cost of training materials, the new Basic Training Manual and expenses.

Bi-weekly basic training classes will meet on Saturdays beginning January 13, 2018.
