New Staff Orientation

All new staff who work in a child care center or group home and any new family child care providers are required to complete a professional development module for their setting that contains new staff orientation information and the mandated health and safety training.

The options for completing this requirement in Pennsylvania are:

Get Started with Center-Based Care: Building Blocks for Quality (PA residents only)

A ten-hour core orientation module required for new child care staff in Pennsylvania. Completion of this module meets the required hours of orientation for new staff professionals in Pennsylvania plus mandated health and safety education requirements. (K6.2 C1, CDA6) 10 hours

Get Started with Home-Based Care: Building Blocks for Quality (PA residents only)

A ten-hour core orientation module required for new family child care professionals in Pennsylvania. Completion of this module meets the required hours of orientation for new professionals in Pennsylvania plus mandated health and safety education requirements. (K6.2 C1, CDA6) 10 hours

There is no charge for learners in Pennsylvania to complete the modules above.

Outside of Pennsylvania?

New Staff Orientation modules are available for your staff, too. Each of the following are $20.

  • “New Staff Orientation – Get Started” (8-hour module for staff working with children of all ages)
  • “New Staff Orientation – Working with Infants and Toddlers”  (7-hour module for staff working with infants and toddlers)
  • “New Staff Orientation – Working with Preschoolers”  (7-hour module for staff working with preschoolers)
  • “New Staff Orientation – Working with School-age youth”  (7-hour module for staff working with school-age youth)
