Kim Munden receives the Carolyn Blum Memorial Award from Penn State’s Phillip Clauer

Kim Munden, Meadville, Crawford County, received the 2017 Carolyn Blum Memorial Pennsylvania Poultry Youth Service Award at the annual Youth Poultry 101 Conference held at Penn State’s University Park Campus on April 29, in recognition of her outstanding leadership to youth poultry programs in Pennsylvania.

Eleven 4-H’ers represented Pennsylvania in four different contest areas at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference held at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, KY on November 17, with the Pennsylvania Poultry Judging Team from Montgomery County taking first place overall.

Penn State's Poultry Judging Team placed first in the nation at the 51st National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest held November 7-8 at the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR, making it two years in a row Penn State students have topped the competition.

For the second straight year, Penn State's Poultry Science Club was recognized as National Club of the Year. Senior Josh Cassar was named National Member of the Year.

The team placed second overall in the Poultry Judging Contest, just 1.3 points (out of 4500) behind first place winner Georgia. Pennsylvania was first in the Market Egg Division, second in Production Hens and Oral Reasons Division and fourth in the Market Poultry Division.

For the second straight year, students from Penn State's Department of Animal Science placed second overall at the USPOULTRY Foundation Ted Cameron National Poultry Judging Contest held at Louisiana State University on April 15-17. Josh Cassar, Lansdale, PA, was first place over all individual.

The Poultry Science Club won the following honors at the United States Poultry and Egg Association College program in Atlanta GA. Taylor Young was named national "Member of the Year", Corissa Steimling was 2nd place national "Member of the Year", the club was named 2nd place "Club of the Year", and we had the 3rd place Scrapbook. Amy Mayer also received the Don R. Sloan Undergraduate Research Award in recognition for a superior undergraduate research presentation at the meeting.
