Pennsylvania National Guard Child and Youth Program

When National Guard parents living in civilian communities mobilize, their children suddenly have unique needs for special support and services. These kids are known as "suddenly military."

Teachers, friends, and the rest of the community may see the "same old kid," but in reality, their lives are turned upside down!

"The PA National Guard Child and Youth Program will advocate for all Pennsylvania National Guard children and will offer programs and opportunities to collaborate with other military children to form a strong support base for all."

Many of their usual support systems may no longer be adequate. Extensive media coverage of on-going military operations creates daily anxiety. These "suddenly military" children need to connect with other youth in similar situations. They seek friends and adults who can empathize and can help them cope with their new world.

The Pennsylvania National Guard Child and Youth Program has been designed to serve and support these "suddenly military" children. Below are some of the programs, events, and support items Pennsylvania National Guard Children and their Parents may utilize at any time:

  • Military Child and Youth Resource Center
  • Monthly Newsletter
  • Summer Week-Long Teen and Youth Camps
  • Family Camps
  • Day and Overnight Camps Across the Commonwealth
  • Teen Leadership Council
  • State & National Youth Conference Opportunities
  • Educator Presentations and Trainings
