Local 4-H Clubs Use Their Media Skills to Win Big in Anti-Substance Use Contest

Congratulations to the winners of the first round of REAL Media's contest

June 5, 2018 by REAL Media

Pennsylvania 4-H club members won top prizes in an anti-substance use media competition! Participating in REAL media, a new 4-H curriculum from Rutgers University and REAL Prevention LLC, club members completed the interactive program and used what they learned to construct their own anti-substance use messages. REAL media, an e-learning media literacy program, focuses on developing participants’ knowledge of advertising techniques used to sell products including alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

Competing against other club members, anti-substance use videos or posters were submitted to a social media competition and winners were decided by most likes and comments. This 4-H club activity fulfills the head, heart, hand and health pledge by providing youth with the opportunity to share their messages fighting back against drug advertisements and pressures to help their friends and community live healthy and substance-free lives.
