2017 PA 4-H Shooting Sports National Championship Event

The PA 4-H Shooting Sports National Shooting Championship was held in Grand Island, Nebraska from June 25-30, 2017. Seven hundred twelve 4-H members from 36 states participated in the twelve event championships. Pennsylvania sent 13 members to compete in the Small-bore Rifle, Sporter Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Shotgun and Compound Archery contests.

Washington County 4-H Collects 7,047 Pounds of Food and Supplies for Local Food Bank

The Washington County 4-H Clubs collected 7,047 pounds of food and supplies for the Washington County Food Bank. Fifteen 4-H clubs donated food on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Washington Food Bank located in Brownsville, Pa. They collected can goods, cleaning products and other food items.
NYSD is also held in conjunction with National 4-H Week!

Stop the Invasion: Unwanted Plants, Bugs and Other Pests

Penn State Extension and Pennsylvania 4-H, with funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, created Stop the Invasion: Unwanted Plants, Bugs and Other Pests, a hands-on curriculum to address the threat of invasive species.
Youth in the Science Track of the 2017 Wildlife and Forestry Field Day learned to apply wildlife and forestry knowledge in on-site skills sessions. A sign language interpreter (center) assisted in explaining tree measuring technique.
Members Learn, Explore and Compete at 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day

The 2017 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day, held at Rock Springs, PA, was another “wild” success! 4-H youth and adults from across the state explored the wildlife and forestry sciences. The event featured an Exploratory Track for younger 4-H youth and a Science Track for teens. The theme for the Exploratory Track presented tools and methods for wildlife and forestry research, while the Science Track focused on applying research knowledge to managing forests and wildlife.
