Over 500 young people descended on State College, PA during the last weekend of January. They were all in town for the PA 4-H State Leadership Conference. The weekend was an opportunity for 4-H’ers to come together for leadership training, networking, and learning experiences.

This year the Northampton County 4-H Program partnered with the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley to write a mini-grant from the Lehigh Valley Greenway’s Conservation Landscape Program. A grant in the amount of $2,000 was received to bring 4-H environmental education programs to the youth of Easton’s West Ward. Funds received are being used to support 4-H youth memberships and to provide transportation to get the youth out into the Lehigh Valley’s greenspaces!

The 4-H Embryology egg to chick program provides youth with background information and exciting experiential activities dealing with life science. Students develop an understanding of biology through direct experiences with living things, observation of embryo development, instruction in avian life cycles, and the basics of poultry production. Each activity in the program is designed to be grade-level appropriate and has been correlated to the U.S. National Science Education Standards.

Each year, 4-H members from across the United States and its territories come together to participate in National 4-H Congress, which has been a 4-H tradition for more than 80 years. This year over 900 delegates from 45 states and territories. Northampton County was proud to send Brittany Fistner and Steton Weber as delegates.

Northampton County 4-H Equine Members participate in the Pennsylvania 4-H Junior Championship Horse Show, 4-H State Achievement Days, and 4-H Horse Shows at the county, regional, and state level!

18 youth from Northampton were among more than 650 4-H members from across Pennsylvania who recently took part in the annual 4-H State Achievement Days at Penn State’s University Park campus. The theme this year was "Rockin’ Out to Success!"

The Northampton County 4-H program had many youth take part in Textile Science projects during the 2016 4-H year. Many participated in the District and State Fashion Revue - "Rockin' Out with Fashion"!

For many campers, their only suggestion to making 4-H Camp better is to have it be 2 weeks instead of 5 days! That’s pretty amazing for a group of 47 campers age 8-12 and 19 LIT’s (Leaders in Training) ages 13-16 to say after spending a week in the woods without electricity!
