4-H Meat Goat Club

4-H Meat Goat Club gives youth ages 8-18 the opportunity to learn about meat goats. Participants can raise and show both breeding and market animals. The club meets every 2nd Thursday between the months of January and September at the Ag Heritage Center on Franklin Farm Lane.

What’s the club all about?

The Franklin County 4-H Goat Club offers a program to youth who are excited to learn about goats. The club meets once a month to discuss topics concerning goats and uses “hands on” workshops as a learning tool.

Our goal is to provide youth in Franklin County with an opportunity to learn more about goats. In addition members will develop skills that will be beneficial throughout their lives.

Some examples include:

  • Make New Friends
  • Learn Responsibility
  • Develop Self Confidence
  • Create Initiative
  • Decision Making
  • Community Service
  • Citizenship
  • Leadership

Don’t have anywhere to keep a goat?

Good news! You can still become a member. We offer animal-less projects in which the 4-Her participates in all activities throughout the year. The only difference being that they won’t have an animal to sell.

How do I become a member?

You must be 8 years old by January 1st of the current year; and not older than 18 years old as of January 1st of the current year to be eligible to join. You can contact a leader or call the Penn State Extension office at 717-263-9226 for more information.
