Lower Dauphin Livestock Club

My name is Lukas, and I am part of the 4-H Lower Dauphin Livestock Club. I was awarded a Teeswater ewe this past spring through Maryland Sheep and Wool. They have a youth conservation program that helps heritage breeds succeed by pairing young shepherds established shepherds. Established shepherds donate a yearling ewe to the young shepherd. There are many requirements that need to fulfilled within the program. I have enjoyed having my Teeswaters and now have two ewes and a ram. They are on the critical list with the livestock conservancy. This breed originated in the United Kingdom. Sugar Moon is the name of the ewe I was awarded.  My journey started by going down to the Maryland Sheep and Wool to get awarded the ewe through a special ceremony.  Then, I prepared her for the Elizabethtown Community Fair where she got 3^rd place in her class. I was then able to show her at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, both in the open and youth classes where she placed 4th in open and in 9^th in the youth. I’ve enjoyed my journey so far and look forward to having Teeswater lambs this spring.
