Meeting Minutes

The Cumberland County 4-H Advisory Council met on Monday Feb. 24, 2014 at the Penn State Extension Office, Carlisle, PA.

COUNCIL ATTENDANCE: Deb Yorlets, Mary Ellen Kurnath, Mike Cross, Michael Martin, Alyssa Knisely, Dwight West, Anita Long, Rachel Brandt, Carla Markel, Susan Ostrowski


Meeting Started – 7:07 PM

Secretary’s Minutes-silent review. Approved as presented.

Treasurer’s Report-review. Donations from Rotary- $1,000 and from Valley Grange $500. (Cross/Knisely)


Extension Board-Meeting was cancelled due to snowy weather, email update to volunteer in upcoming events. Next Board meeting is Tues. April 1 at the Ext. Office

Youth Report- youth unable to attend our meeting; we need a second youth to report with Mackenzie Yorlets.


Volunteer Background Clearance Update- child abuse and background clearance is now online.

Enrollment update-Achievement club banquet committee is to plan a date to meet.


Council Nominations- we need 3 more volunteers to serve on Advisory Council. We currently have 15 adults serving.

Williams Grove Food Stands plans- Sun Aug 24 to Aug 31; Buck Swisher to head up and help/we need more people to work shifts.

Car Show Food Stand plans- Chrysler Show on July 11-13; Rabbit Club and Exchange Club to help.

Spring Sub Sale- orders due 1st week in April for April 18th pick up.


Volunteer Appreciation Open House Report- Took place Fri. Feb. 2 at Extension Office with 39 people attending for soup, salad, sandwiches and desserts.

News & Notes- now available in email format which received nice reviews.

Club updates- Rabbit Club has new leaders with 20 members. A new Bee Keeping Club is interested in forming.


State Leadership Conference- Jan. 17-19 had 6 teen attend at State College

Winter Academy & Teen Retreat- Feb. 28-Mar. 2 at Doubling Gap with 17 from Cumberland County to attend.

Speak Out Night-scheduled Tues April 15.

Livestock Benefit Auction- scheduled May 9 at Big Spring High School

Ag Science Day Camp- June 24-25 for ages 8-12. Field trips to local sights. We still need teen leaders to help as camp counselors.


Exchange Week- June 26-July 3. We will host 10 4-H’ers from Colorado.

Activity Day I- July 9 is a ½ day  (8 AM.- 12 Noon) for children ages 8-12.
