Meeting Minutes

The Cumberland County 4-H Advisory Council met on Monday August 18, 2014 at the Penn State Extension Office, Carlisle, Pa.

COUNCIL ATTENDANCE: Deb Yorlets, Susan Ostrowski, Mike Cross, Duane Duncan, Anita Long, Linda Willis, Rachel Brandt Shambaugh, Francesco Mazzotta

EXTENSION STAFF: Pam Tracey

Meeting Called to Order by President Deb Yorlets at 7:08 P.M.

Secretary’s Minutes-Silent review. Approved (Cross/Willis)

Treasurer’s Report- Approved. (Brandt-Shambaugh/Duncan)

COMMITTEE REPORTS: Extension Board-Pam reported the board met the first Tuesday in August. The Annual Meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 6 at Whispering Pines.

Youth Report-While Mackenzie Yorlets was at Farm Stock meeting same time as our meeting, she relayed to us that the animal club is very busy for the end of the year.

OLD BUSINESS: Car Show Food Stand Report- $900 was made. This was a disappointing total for the weekend, to be divided 50% among the clubs who participated, and 50% to Development Fund. The Advisory Council, motioned by Rachel Brandt-Shambaugh, voted to change the percentage to be divided 75% to clubs and 25% to the Development Fund. A later vote will be decided if we will continue this venue, as it doesn’t appear to be profitable. (Mazzotta/Cross)

Williams Grove Food Stand update- August 24 to September 1. Please volunteer & sign up.

4-H Achievement Banquet- Sat. Oct. 4 breakfast and awards at Penn Township Fire Hall.

Awards review committee will meet Sept 9 at 6 P.M. at Ext. Office with a pizza dinner. Committee comprised of Glenda Farner Strasbaugh, Francesco Mazzotta, Rachel Brandt-Shambaugh, Mike Cross, Linda Willis, Alyssa Knisely.

NEW BUSINESS: Banquet award presenters are needed. Sign up with Pam. Clubs are designing their banners, and baskets are being made for the silent auction.

Fall Fundraiser-A sub sale will be in October.

2014-2015 Budget Committee will meet Sept. 23 at 6:30 P.M. comprised of Francesco Mazzotta, Alyssa Knisely, Anita Long, Mike Cross.

OTHER BUSINESS: Donations update. Penn State had two donations totaling $50 given to Cumberland County 4-H.

PROGRAM UPDATES: Ag Science Day Camp had 29 campers.

Activity Day I & II had 25 campers each day with fun activities.

State Achievement Days had 12 kid attendees.

4-H Project Round Up was well attended with non-live-animal projects on display.

Livestock Round Up and Sale had 204 animals and was successful.

Volunteer Training will be Sept 16 with club volunteers to attend.

Achievement Banquet will be Oct 4 with a breakfast, auction baskets and club banners.

Lock-In will be Oct 31 with no sleep over. It will be 6 P.M. to 11 P.M. Attendees ages 8-12.

Extension Annual Meeting will be Nov 6 at Whispering Pines with a speaker from the game commission.
