Butler County 4-H Livestock Scholarship

Selection Criteria

1. The applicant must be a member in good standing (60% attendance of their primary club meetings) with a Butler County 4-H club, and
   • Must have completed a minimum of three consecutive years of active membership including the current year.
   • Must have enrolled in at least one market animal livestock project for a minimum of three consecutive years of active membership including the current year.
   • Must have sold at least one market animal livestock project through the Butler County Junior Livestock Sale for a minimum of three consecutive years of active membership including the current year. The scholarship award committee will give consideration to circumstances that may prevent a 4-H member from selling a market animal livestock project through the sale.
   • The applicant must not have passed their nineteenth (19th) birthday as of January 1 of the current year.
2. The scholarship committee may consider applications from individuals that, due to extenuating circumstances, do not meet all of the criteria included in item 1.
3. Each potential applicant will prepare and submit the Butler County 4-H Livestock "Application for Scholarship" form.
4. The applicant must be enrolled in a legitimate advanced educational program beyond the high school level. The program may be either technical or academic in nature. Proof of enrollment must accompany the scholarship application.
5. The applicant must submit a project book(s) as appropriate for their market animal projects. Project books must be current through July 31st. It is recognized that the project is not complete until after the Jr Livestock Sale, however records should accurately reflect raising and preparing the animals for show and sale. The committee will evaluate project books based on completeness of information, attention to detail, and neatness. In addition to appropriate budget, feed, and health records, the project record should include member goals/plans, activities participated in, a project story, and a photo of the project animal(s).
6. The scholarship committee will determine the amount of each scholarship awarded based on the application and the project books submitted.
7. Applications must be received at the Butler County Extension Office by 4:30 p.m. on July 31st to be eligible for scholarship consideration. If July 31st falls on a weekend, applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on the preceding Friday. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be accepted and will not be considered for a scholarship.
8. The scholarship will be awarded during the Butler County Junior Livestock Sale held during the Butler Farm Show.

Program Dissolution

In the event of dissolution of the Butler County 4-H Livestock Scholarship Fund, a committee consisting of a Butler County Extension Educator and adult Butler County 4-H livestock project leaders shall meet to decide how the existing funds will be dispersed. Dispersal of funds shall be done in compliance with current 4-H financial policies.

Applications for the Butler County 4-H Livestock Scholarship must be received at the Butler County Extension Office, 101 Motor Pool Way, Butler, PA 16001, no later 4:30 p.m. on July 31st of the current year. If July 31st falls on a weekend, applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on the preceding Friday. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be accepted and will not be considered for a scholarship.
