Butler County 4-H Development Scholarship

Eligibility, Rules and Procedures

• Applicants must be current 4-H members in the Butler County 4-H program.
• Applicants must be enrolled in a two or four year college, trade or business school, or other qualifying post-secondary educational or certificate program on a full time basis.
• Selection will be based on the applicant's record of continuing involvement in skills learned in 4-H, participation in school and community activities, and scholastic achievement at the post-secondary level.
• Awards will be made without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, disability or handicap, or financial need.
• The application form should be typed or printed neatly.
• Completed applications are due on or before July 31, to the Extension Office.
• Personal interviews may be conducted as part of the selection process.
• Selection of the scholarship recipient is the responsibility of the Butler County 4-H Program Development Committee and its designees.
• Announcement of the scholarship will be made officially before the 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale at the Butler Farm Show. An announcement will appear in the 4-H newsletter, and the winner's school will be notified of the award. The recipient will receive the monetary award within one month after applications are due.
• If an applicant chosen does not attend a post-secondary educational program, the scholarship must be returned to the Butler County 4-H Development Scholarship Program.
• References - one from a 4-H leader and one from school or a community organization in which you participate. References cannot be from a parent, other relative or Extension Educator.
  

Scholarship Application Checklist

• Completed application
• Two references
• High school or college transcript (if currently attending a post-secondary school)
• Proof of enrollment or attendance at an accredited technical school, college, or university. The scholarship award committee will accept only a letter of enrollment confirmation, a class schedule for the fall semester of the current year, a receipt of tuition payment, or other form of enrollment documentation. A letter of acceptance is NOT proof of enrollment.

• 30% - 4-H Projects and Activities
• 20% - School and Community Activities
• 20% - Scholastic Achievement
• 30% - Personal Growth in 4-H
  

Questions to Answer

1. 4-H projects: List all current and previous projects along with the year completed.
2. 4-H activities: List club, county, regional, state and national 4-H events and activities along with the year of participation. Include offices and committee responsibilities.
3. School and community activities: List year, leadership role, and description of accomplishments.
4. Employment record (if applicable)
5. Describe your most rewarding 4-H experience. (1/2 page)
6. Explain how your 4-H experiences have helped make a difference in your personal development. (1 page)
