Gall Knobby galls 6 inches in length and 1½ inches in diameter occur on stems of common privet. Phomopsis Prune-infected stems.
Twig blight and canker Common or European privet (Ligustrum vulgare), twigs die. Cankers have pinkish fungal fruiting structures. Affected bark splits, and plants die when girdled. Glomerella cingulata Plant-resistant cultivars such as 'Amure', 'California', 'Ibota', or 'Regal'.
