Planting Green Field Day
Learn about the emerging practice of planting green at these soil health-centered field days. Attendees will see how planting corn and soybean cash crops into rolled cover crops can increase soil organic matter, suppress weeds, and provide a protective mulch for growing crops. The day will include a demonstration of the practice and farmer-led discussion. Topics will include cover crop selection and seeding rates, timing of the practice, equipment setup and cover crop termination. Featured speakers include Charlie Martin, farmer and inventor of the Dawn ZRX planter-mounted roller-crimper, Dr. Sjoerd Duiker, Professor of Soil Management and local Penn State Extension Educators.
The intended audience includes farmers, consultants and agency personnel focused on soil health and management.
