About The In-Person Workshop

Learn about the safe and effective handling of pesticides in a classroom-based workshop designed to prepare participants for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicator exam. Each session combines recorded presentations with an in-person instructor, who will answer questions, facilitate discussion, and support participants in understanding the material, helping them advance their certification goals.

Meals will not be provided; participants are encouraged to bring their own food or explore local dining options during breaks.

Topics covered

Note: Workshop topics vary by event location – check agenda to see topics are offered.

  • Core: Training on pesticide safety and regulations required for all certified applicators
  • Category 07: Pesticide applications to turfgrass to maintain healthy turf at commercial and residential properties, golf courses, and athletic fields
  • Category 23: Park and school pest control requirements for applying pesticides in campgrounds, recreational areas, and on elementary or secondary school properties

Certification exam study materials

Study materials are not included with registration. All participants are responsible for obtaining their own certification examination training materials. To ensure materials arrive on time, order your training packets in advance from the Certification Exam Study Materials website. If you plan to use previously purchased packets, be aware that some materials have been updated. Ensure your study materials include the most current manuals.

Scheduling your exam

The pesticide applicator licensing exam will not be offered as part of this course. To find a convenient location and time to take your exam and make your reservation, go to the Pesticide Exam Search.

Preregistration is required.

Who is this for?
  • Individuals employed to apply pesticides to customers’ properties, that is, those who apply pesticides for hire
  •  Individuals employed by the state, a municipality, a public school district, or by an employer funded with public money
  •  Individuals who intend to purchase and apply restricted-use pesticides to property they or their employer own or rent for the production of an agricultural commodity, including nursery and greenhouse crops
