About The In-Person Workshop

Celebrate Pennsylvania Native Species Day with Penn State Extension Master Gardeners and Master Watershed Stewards of Westmoreland County, joined by Andrea Kautz of Powdermill Nature Reserve, in an engaging, hands-on workshop focused on the value of native plants, wildlife, and resilient ecosystems. The program begins with a presentation on how native trees support caterpillar diversity, followed by interactive breakout sessions exploring connections across forest ecosystems—from canopy to stream. Designed for gardeners, nature enthusiasts, and conservation advocates alike, this workshop offers practical knowledge and meaningful insight into protecting and sustaining Pennsylvania’s native species and habitats.

Some sessions will take place outdoors on uneven terrain; please dress appropriately for the weather. Participants should bring a reusable water bottle and snacks.

This event is being offered at no charge to participants.

Registering before the event is encouraged and appreciated!
