Penn State Extension Seeks Input on Agricultural Safety and Health Programming
Agriculture is one of the most hazardous and stressful occupations, leading to higher rates of physical and mental health challenges among farmers and farm workers. Besides impacting quality of life, health and safety challenges have direct repercussions on the farm operation, including how much work can get done and its economic viability.
The Penn State Agricultural Safety and Health Program is seeking input from farmers, farm workers, and their families to better understand their lived realities with safety and health on the farm and the type of solutions that they would like to see. We will use the valuable insights we receive to inform our future program offerings. We will also use these insights to inform policymakers, farm organizations, and service providers about the agricultural sector's safety and well-being and what they could do to support it.
This short survey should take less than 10 minutes to fill out, and all information shared will be confidential. Survey respondents can enter the raffle to win a free farm safety item as a thank you for their time. Choices of safety items to include: slow-moving vehicle (SMV) sign, PTO shield cover, high-viz t-shirt for the children,lockout-tagout kit, anti-vibration gloves.
The survey is available online. A paper version of the survey is also available, and you can get one by contacting Florence Becot at 814-865-1783 or ffb5072@psu.edu. Thank you in advance for your feedback.
