About the In-Person Workshop
Step outside and explore pasture management with Penn State Extension's Dairy, Livestock, Equine, and Agronomy teams. This pasture walk series offers practical insight into improving pasture quality for grazing animals, with topics including soil testing, pasture evaluation, rotational grazing, pasture management, and species selection. Hosted at farms across Pennsylvania, each event highlights real-world practices and site-specific conditions—see individual listings for details about each host farm. While this featured stop focuses on a beef and sheep operation, the rotational grazing principles shared are widely applicable to a variety of grazing species.
The Yoders, owners of Echo Spring Farm, offer a range of farm-fresh products, including meats and a variety of fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables. They raise beef cattle and sheep using a rotational grazing system and are working to expand their operation. Currently, they graze up to 10 cattle, 20 sheep, and 200 broilers each year. Beef calves and lambs are finished on grass and marketed as freezer animals through custom sales. Ongoing efforts include improving pasture watering systems, enhancing riparian buffers, installing water diversions, renovating pastures with new seedings, and strengthening stockpiles for winter grazing, as well as incorporating annuals for cattle grazing.
This event is being offered at no charge to participants.
