New Penn State Equine Extension Specialist

The Penn State Equine Extension Team is growing, and we are beyond excited to welcome Dr. Danielle Smarsh to Penn State!

Dr. Danielle Smarsh, Ph.D., PAS, is an Equine Extension Specialist and Assistant Professor of Equine Science for Penn State University. Dr. Smarsh grew up riding horses in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. She received her B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Delaware and her Ph.D. in Equine Exercise Physiology from Rutgers University. After spending 4.5 years teaching in the Animal Science Department at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Dr. Smarsh moved back to the Northeast to join the Penn State Extension Equine Team. Her prior equine research involved looking at the effects of age and training on antioxidants and oxidative stress in Standardbreds.

She will helping to grow existing Extension programs, developing her own new programs, teaching undergraduates, performing equine research, and much more! Make sure to say hello to her if you see her at an Equine Extension Team event!
