About The In-Person Workshop

Join the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Cumberland County for "Natural Colors: Using Plant Materials to Dye," an engaging workshop beginning with a welcome introduction to water-wise gardening, offering practical strategies for smart watering and selecting the right plants for the right place to conserve resources and support healthy landscapes. Participants will then explore the art and science of natural dyeing, learning how plants such as indigo, marigold, and other botanicals can be used to create vibrant, sustainable colors. The program continues with a guided tour of the Allen Road herb garden, showcasing key dye plants in season, and concludes with a hands-on activity where attendees will dye cotton bandanas to take home.
