What is the Master Well Owner Network (MWON)?

The Penn State Master Well Owner Network (MWON) is a program dedicated to educating PA residents about the proper construction and management of private water systems. This program aims to educate private water system owners and promote better management of private wells, springs, and cisterns throughout the state.

Who are the MWON volunteers?

Each year, volunteers from Penn State Extension's Master Watershed Steward program are offered an opportunity to expand their knowledge on the proper construction and maintenance of private water systems in Pennsylvania. The Master Watershed Steward volunteers who complete this advanced training become part of a network of volunteers, adding capacity for Extension to reach rural property owners with educational content on best management practices for private water systems, such as wells, springs, and cisterns. This summer, we added 26 newly trained MWON volunteers to our network.
