For the first time, the PA Master Watershed Stewards took part in the PA Farm Show, held from Saturday, January 7th, 2017 through Saturday, January 14th, 2017 at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA. The Master Watershed Stewards staffed a booth during the show, as part of the Penn State Extension display. They disseminated information about water quality, invasive pests and the Master Watershed Steward program. They gave daily educational presentations on the nearby stage, which were well-received by Farm Show attendees.
The highlights of the booth were the two free-standing display cutouts, one depicting a dragonfly and the other a salamander, designed by the York County Master Watershed Stewards. Children made a beeline to the displays and put their faces through the cutouts, exhorting their parents to take their pictures.
Overall, the week was a rousing success, with hundreds of people receiving the message about the importance of protecting the water we all share. The Master Watershed Stewards eagerly await next year's Farm Show, which will be bigger and better than ever.
