Join us for Gardening with Jenny Rose Carey! Jenny is the director of Pennsylvania Horticultural Society garden at Meadowbrook and author of Glorious Shade and she will present two talks titled Glorious Shade and Gardening without Sprinklers. Presented by the Monroe County Master Gardeners.
About Jenny Rose Carey
Jenny Rose Carey started her career as a teacher of Biology and Physical Science in England and then in America, returning to school to receive a Horticulture degree at Temple University in Ambler, Pennsylvania. She worked at Temple University for over a decade, first as an adjunct professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture and then as the Director of the Ambler Arboretum of Temple University.
Jenny Rose has been lecturing nationally and internationally for many years. Her speaking engagements have been at Universities, Botanic Gardens, Arboreta and Garden Clubs on a range of topics, including; gardens of the jazz age, women in gardening history, gardening without additional watering, shade gardens, herb gardens, gardens of the world and the history of horticulture and landscape design. Jenny Rose also taught in the garden history program at The Barnes Foundation for about eleven years. Her lectures are richly illustrated with her own photographs of plants and gardens from both sides of the Atlantic.
Her latest book, Glorious Shade, published by Timber Press has just been released. It contains over 400 inspirational photos that she took herself and 200 plant genera, as well as design and maintenance tips.
In January 2015, Jenny Rose was named as the new Director of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s garden, Meadowbrook Farm. Meadowbrook is a twenty-one acre garden located just north of Philadelphia, featuring a classic formal garden, herb garden, vegetable garden, perennial, and woodland walks. Jenny Rose and her husband Gus, a native Philadelphian, have lived in the Philadelphia area for thirty years whilst raising their three girls, Meade, Janet, and Emily.
