About the Authors

There is a group of Extension Master Gardeners and County Coordinators that are part of a committee called "Growing Gardeners" who create youth programming primarily for K-3 grades. All the programs can be adapted for the upper grades. We hold a pilot presentation of the 3 or 4 newly created programs that relate to all things horticultural at the Penn State Arboretum.

During COVID, we found out that a German shepherd was being trained to sniff Spotted Lanternfly egg masses at the Working Dog Center of the School of Veterinary at the University of Pennsylvania. We researched and gathered information from the time she was born until she met the Pennsylvania Dept. of Agriculture handler, Shane Philipps.

So, five Master Gardeners and 2 County Coordinators in this new Growing Gardeners program decided to write a book about Lucky and her adventures. The illustrator is Amber Williams, and the research team and authors are Janet Bauman, Cindy VanDruff, Lesa Schultz, Lee Bognar, and County Coordinators, Jill Baer and Kinorea Tigri.
