About the Workshop
Unleash your inner gardener and discover the rewards of growing your own vegetables at home. The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Somerset County present "Learn More! Grow More!," a spring program designed to build confidence in the garden. Over four sessions, participants will explore the fundamentals of vegetable gardening, strengthen existing skills, and learn practical techniques to help their gardens reach their full potential.
Space is limited - preregistration is required.
- Beginning gardeners who want to establish a home vegetable garden
- Home gardeners who want to learn more about growing vegetables in Somerset County
- Experienced gardeners interested in adding vegetables to their existing garden space
- How to site and plan your garden based on Somerset County plant hardiness
- How to rotate crops, use succession planting, and construct a variety of garden beds
- How to support soil health through testing and proper amendments
- How to make informed decisions about starting plants from seed, including indoor starting, direct seeding, transplanting, and sowing patterns
- How to care for your growing garden through proper watering and fertilizing, and how to identify and address plant diseases and pests
