Lawhead Joins Penn State
The Penn State Animal Science Department welcomes Dr. James Lawhead as the newest Dairy Extension Program Specialist. Dr. Lawhead comes to Penn State from Millerstown Veterinary Associates, where he was a practicing veterinarian. At Millerstown Veterinary Associates, Dr. Lawhead spent most of his time working with dairy farmers. Throughout his career, he recognized that increasing the farm's profitability was the key to the success of the client and his business as a veterinarian. In his continuing education, Jim emphasized training in dairy cattle nutrition, reproduction, and general dairy herd management.
Dr. Lisa Holden, Interim Department Head for the Department of Animal Science, stated, "We are pleased to have Jim in the department. His expertise and passion for working with dairy producers will be an asset to our extension efforts. We look forward to the impact he will make in strengthening our outreach to the  dairy industry."
Dr. Lawhead will be developing programs with the Penn State Extension Dairy Team in dairy records, herd management, and strategies for improving farm profitability. "Joining Penn State Extension is an exciting transition in my career, and I look forward to continuing my work with Pennsylvania dairy farmers," exclaimed Dr. Lawhead.
