Estimating & Bidding for Landscape Installation is a two-day intensive workshop designed to help participants understand how to determine the overhead of operating a landscaping business and create a profitable bid. There will be opportunities to ask questions and discuss bidding with other contractors.
To Be Covered
No matter what size the company, it pays to take a critical look at the business end of things.
- Do you know your actual costs?
- Are you covering your overhead?
- Are you making a profit?
We Will Cover
- Checking your overhead recovery
- Understanding why overhead recovery is so important to profit
- Building a bid that works to recover your overhead and direct costs
- Industry benchmarks
To keep an existing business healthy, or to start a successful new business, business owners must constantly hone their business skills. This course will focus on proven estimating techniques that participants can start to use right away.
Our presenter, Scott Burk, is the owner of Scott's Landscaping, Inc. in Centre County, a mid-size, full-service company. He is a graduate of the Landscape Contracting Program at Penn State University and serves as a guest instructor on campus for current students. Come hear what one of Pennsylvania's most successful landscapers has to say about running a profitable business!
09:00 am Day One | Determining Overhead Costs
Participants will work through an Excel spreadsheet using real-world examples to figure overhead costs of a landscape installation business. Each participant will receive an electronic copy of this spreadsheet so they can adapt it and use it for their own business.
09:00 am Day Two | Creating a Bid
Participants will create a bid for a small residential hardscape and plant installation job in detail, using the overhead costs determined on the first day of the class.
