The application process to become an instructor and lead instructor for the Alliance for the Safety of Fresh Produce (ASPPE) was designed to train instructors who consistently and effectively deliver the Alliance's grower training course. This video clip was made to help applicants understand the review process that determines if they meet the basic qualifications to become a lead instructor. There are two levels of instructors: the Alliance Instructor and the Alliance Lead Instructor. Each can perform different training and course administration activities. The first step to becoming an instructor or lead instructor is to attend the two-day ASPPE training course. All instructors must complete the instructor application before attending the ASPPE training course. After completing the course, participants will be granted participating instructor status, and their information will be stored in a database. All instructors will receive a certificate generated by the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFD). The Alliance Instructor can teach any of the seven modules of the Alliance Grower Course under the supervision of a Lead instructors must register for grower training courses in the PGOU as long as a lead instructor is present throughout the course. Proceed with completing the supplemental application to become a lead instructor. Alliance Lead Instructor Supplemental Application. After attending the instructor training course, participants will receive a link to the lead instructor supplemental application. Those interested in becoming a lead instructor must complete the application and pay the review fee of $325 for non-profit organizations and $500 for for-profit organizations and businesses. Applicants will be evaluated using a standardized rubric that includes a review of the initial instructor application and the supplemental application. Each application is reviewed by at least two reviewers. The review process to become a lead instructor aims to ensure that each lead instructor meets the minimum qualifications in each of the four competency areas required to deliver the Alliance grower training course. The application includes four questions, one for each of the following competency areas: scientific knowledge and experience in the safety of fresh produce; knowledge of fruit and vegetable production; and effective delivery of Training on knowledge of FISMA's fresh produce safety standard. Responses will be evaluated using a rubric based on the following scale: Below expectations: The applicant explains the concepts incorrectly. If any of the four responses are rated below expectations, the applicant will not qualify to become a lead instructor. However, the applicant could undertake efforts to improve their knowledge and resubmit their application. Requires further evaluation: The applicant appears to understand the basic principles but fails to explain or apply the information. If any of the four responses are rated in this category, a follow-up phone interview could be scheduled with the applicant to clarify the responses and ask additional questions. Meets expectations: The applicant demonstrates the ability to present and explain content. This could include being able to break down all the information into parts, relate each of these parts to the complete information, and be able to make judgments based on the standards. When the applicant qualifies in this category, they are granted the status of Alliance lead instructor. The Alliance lead instructor can deliver any of the seven modules during the grower training course, register grower training courses in the PGOU, and conduct individual training. or by forming training teams, provided that all instructors have attended the Train the Trainer course and have Alliance Instructor status.
