Growing Ginger and Turmeric in the City
Led by Philadelphia Master Gardeners Michelle Lawson and Bertram Johnson with Philadelphia Extension Educators Dori Buttz and Anna Herman, this interactive 2-hour workshop will cover the basics of growing ginger and turmeric, both tropical plants, under a variety of different site conditions in Philadelphia. Whether growing in-ground, in-containers, or in water (aquaponics), program participants can expect to learn production strategies that suite their unique growing conditions whether they be indoor or outdoor. Participants will also explore ginger and turmeric's botanical properties, origins, varieties and sources, as well as current and historical cultural uses.
