About the In-Person Workshop
Step into the rich history of gardening with the Master Gardeners of Beaver County during this engaging, research-based experience supported by America250PA. Explore five educational, self-driving, self-paced demonstration gardens that highlight how time-honored practices connect with modern, science-backed approaches, offering practical insight you can apply at home. Whether you are looking to strengthen your gardening knowledge or simply enjoy time surrounded by thoughtfully curated landscapes, this event offers a meaningful blend of tradition, education, and community.
The event begins on Friday with a prequel gathering open to the public, featuring local vendor booths and community organization tables. Upon check-in, registered participants will receive a tote bag with a tour booklet and access bracelet. The prequel event includes light appetizers and refreshments, along with brief, engaging presentations connected to the demonstration gardens—covering topics such as gardening history, home food preservation, dyeing textiles with plants, and saving heirloom seeds.
On Saturday, participants will take part in a self-driving, self-guided tour of five Master Gardener–maintained demonstration gardens located throughout Beaver County:
- Â Vicary Mansion in FreedomÂ
- Â Old Economy Village in AmbridgeÂ
- Â Spring Street Demonstration Garden in AliquippaÂ
- Â Vegetable, Fruit, and Herb Demonstration Garden in Brighton TownshipÂ
- Â Beaver Station Demonstration Garden in BeaverÂ
Each location highlights both educational and historical themes, with supporting materials available on-site. The tour is self-driving and self-paced; a detailed booklet will provide a suggested route while allowing flexibility to spend time at each stop as desired. Master Gardeners will be present at all locations to offer guidance, answer questions, and share additional resources.
Registration includes access to both the Friday prequel event and the Saturday tour. View the Agenda for full details.
Please note that gardens will not be staffed for touring on Friday. Participants who are unable to check in on Friday may do so on Saturday at any tour location.Â
This event is made possible in part through grant funding from America250PA – Beaver County, whose support helps expand educational opportunities and community engagement around this program. Visit the About the Sponsor page for additional details.
