Closing Thoughts

When renovating pastures, always start with a soil test and adjust soil fertility. Many times, simply improving soil fertility will allow the preferred plant species to become more competitive and increase pasture production.

Most weeds can be controlled through mowing, but be sure to clip prior to seed development. Sheep and goats may also be useful for controlling some weed species. Adding new plant species into the mix can also be a means to improve pasture production and forage quality.
