Composting on Horse Farms: Why and How

While many of us might refer to a pile of manure that has been sitting for 6 months as "compost," it's really not. Composting is a managed, aerobic process, meaning it typically needs to be turned. There are many other factors that go into proper composting, and many benefits to doing it the right way (such as reduced odor and destruction of weed seeds and pathogens).
