Allium Leafminer Spring Update: April 24, 2017

The week of April 17 to April 23 we found adult allium leafminers indicating that the populations are increasing. We expect populations to continue to increase, reaching peak populations in the beginning of May, so control measures should be taken.

We have been getting reports of damage on chives and early season alliums, including wild garlic. For chemical control recommendations, Shelby Fleischer created an allium leafminer amendment for the Mid-Atlantic Commercial Vegetable Production Guide 2016-2017.
