Access Agricultural Information in Spanish Using Tilva™

Penn State Extension has developed Tilva™, an artificial intelligence-based tool that provides access to agricultural information in English and Spanish. Tilva™ can draw from information available in English and present it clearly in Spanish, expanding access so people can read, learn, and make decisions in the language they prefer.

With Tilva™, you can ask questions and upload photos of plants, pests, or soil test results. Tilva™ can provide clear, practical responses supported by scientific research. The information provided by Tilva™ comes from Penn State University, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), climate data, and other reliable sources. As a result, its responses are based on validated technical knowledge and on resources developed or supported by Extension professionals.

You can also upload photos of plants, insects, weeds, damage, or diseases observed in the field, in the garden, or at home. Using the image, Tilva™ can help identify potential issues and explain what may be occurring. If you have soil test results, you can upload them to receive a general interpretation and recommendations on next steps.

Tilva™ can point you to articles, guides, online or in-person trainings, and Penn State Extension events related to your question. These resources can help you learn more about the topic and explore next steps. When a question involves potential risks to people, animals, or the environment, Tilva™ can guide you to the appropriate contacts for more information.

For Example, You can ask:

"How do I fertilize my tomatoes through a drip irrigation system?"

Tilva™ will respond with guidance tailored to your situation. In this example, the response included guidance on pre-plant fertilization, fertilizer selection, application frequency, and how to inject fertilizer through the irrigation system. It also included links to information sources and suggested additional questions to help refine the recommendation.

Although Tilva™ can provide information tailored to your questions, the specific conditions at your site, your test results, and product labels should always guide final decisions. Always follow label directions when using agricultural products. Tilva™ can help you work through questions, understand a situation, and decide on next steps.
