The West Perry PROSPER Team holds monthly meetings to work on planning, marketing, and implementing the two selected evidence-based programs. Many of the team members also attend the annual statewide PROSPER meeting in the spring.
The West Perry PROSPER Team consists of school personnel, cooperative extension staff, human service agencies, the state health nurse, and teen representatives from the high school student body. The team uses adults and youth in its planning and decision-making process, and high school teens take an active leadership role during the Strengthening Families Program: For Parents and Youth 10-14 (SFP: 10-14) sessions.
Team members play a large role in the promotion of PROSPER throughout the community, as well as in the recruitment of students and families through innovative strategies, such as mock program sessions. The team works at the middle school level to recruit 6th graders and their families to participate in the SFP: 10-14 and in collaboration with the school to provide LifeSkills Training to 7th graders as part of the health curriculum.
The team has successfully supported evidence-based programming in West Perry by organizing fundraisers and planning for long-term sustainability. Each year, for example, the team raises funds by running a milkshake stand at a local carnival.
