This edition of the Ideas for Intergenerational Living newsletter begins with Brenda Rich’s Relative Caregivers Rock! column which highlights some of the challenges relative caregivers face when raising children of incarcerated parents. This is followed by highlights from Generations United’s report: “Family Matters: Multigenerational Families in a Volatile Economy” and summaries and links to seven reports on caregiving. We then note some new resources and reports in the areas of healthy aging, “engaged” aging, support for relative caregiver families, and emergency preparedness. Finally, we draw attention to June 1, 2012, the deadline for submitting entries to the Rachel Carson Intergenerational Sense of Wonder Contest. This year, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act, the contest will focus on a Sense of Water. Entrants are asked to focus their photography, essay, poetry, and dance submissions on the various properties of water – how it tastes, what it sounds like, how it feels – and what water means to the entrants. Good luck!!
