Better Kid Care: Core Knowledge Competencies and Big Ideas Framework

This session provides ECE Professionals with an introduction to the PA Keys' professional development system and two new resources that have been developed for practitioners' use. This session meets the requirements of the Keystone STARS Core Series for CBK/PDR.

Participants will learn how the Core Knowledge Competencies (CKC) and the Big Ideas Framework/Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) documents can be used to help ECE professionals assess and chart their education, professional development needs, and accomplishments. Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Objective 1: Distinguish among the various components of the PA Professional Development system.
  • Objective 2: Compare the relationship between the Core Knowledge Competencies document and the Big Ideas Framework document.
  • Objective 3: Examine the process in completing the Big Ideas/Essential Questions self-assessment section and develop an Individual Professional Development Plan.
  • Objective 4: Interpret and plan for the role of staff and administrators in the effective implementation of the new PA Professional Development documents.
